Stingrays have a very docile nature and if you encounter one whilst diving or snorkeling it will most likely approach you instead of being frightened and swim away.
It can grow to become 790 lbs and in the wild it can live for 15 – 25 years.
The venom in the underside of the Stingrays spine can be fatal to humans, and it remains deadly even after the Stingray is dead. But, this is only for the purpose of self defense.
In Greek mythology, Odysseus, the great king of Ithaca, was killed when his son, Telegonus, struck him using a spear tipped with the spine of a stingray.
